Carl Russell

March 31, 1931 - May 16, 2019

Carl Russell, 88, of Kitts Hill, OH passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Harbor Healthcare of Ironton.  He was born March 31, 1931 in Aid, OH, son of the late Denver and Verga Brown Russell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Gail Derifield Russell; two brothers, Forrest Payne and Robert Payne and two sisters, Virginia Payne Wilson and Martha A. Zimmer.  Carl was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Lawrence County Engineers and was a 52 year member of Ohio Operating Engineers, Local 18, District 3.  He was a 1949 graduate of Kitts Hill High School, founding member of Aid Volunteer Fire Department, founding member and first elected member of Aid Cemetery and was a member of Rock Camp United Methodist Church.  Carl is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth Russell Melvin of Ironton, OH, Kathryn (Bill) Shope of Pedro, OH and Andrea (Donnie) Holbrook of Kitts Hill, OH; two nieces that were raised in his home, Connie Jo Christian of Willow Wood, OH and Carla (Benny) Sutton of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Erica, Andrew, James, Tyler, Sarah, Olivia, and Shyla; five great grandchildren, Isaac, Greyson, Allie, Josiah and Zion; three step great grandchildren, Landen, Meagan and Bethany; a special cousin, Juanita Thomas and several nieces and nephews.  The family would like to give a special thanks to Community Hospice of Ashland, KY and Harbor Healthcare of Ironton, OH.  Funeral Service will be 11 AM Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Rock Camp United Methodist Church, County Road 6, Kitts Hill, OH with Pastor Brad Jenkins and Roger McCaleb officiating.  Burial will follow at Melvin Cemetery.  Visitation will be 6 PM – 8 PM Monday, May 20, 2019 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, OH.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion’s Warriors Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1941 Bishop Lane, Suite 108, Louisville, KY 40218.  Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
