ELSIE “SUSIE” VERNA WOOD, 91, of Burlington, Ohio, went to be with her Lord Friday, December 28, 2012 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, KY. Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, Ohio with Bishop Elzy Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Susie was born June 30, 1921 in Proctorville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Oscar and Elsie Verna Payne Howard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Phillip Lyles; second husband, James Wood; and two brothers, James “Dugan” Morgan and Stanley Morgan. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Linda Payne, Paulette Johnson, Denise Johnson, Tim Howard, Ted Howard and Teresa Dennison one brother Floyd (Gay) Howard of Columbus, Ohio; several great nieces and nephew, relatives and friends. Susie loved gardening and was a member of Christ Temple Church, Ashland, KY. The family extends a special thank you to Jessie Coleman, Maggie Johnson and Billie Schneider, the staff at Heartland of Riverview and the staff of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
