JAMES AUBREY DANIEL, SR., of Chesapeake, Ohio passed away peacefully on September 19, 2012 in the presence of members of his loving family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2 PM at Johnson-Memorial United Methodist Church 513 Tenth Street, Huntington, WV with Rev. Jack Lipphardt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Jim was born February 5, 1924, the second son of Lee Fitzhugh and Pearl Clement Daniel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Ann and his brother Lee, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth White Daniel, a son Jim, Jr. and his wife Patrice Saunders Daniel. Jim was a devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren, James David Daniel, Catherine Daniel Goldberg (Daniel), Jacqueline DePas Schlosser (Aaron) and Dania Aubrey Christine DePas. He was further blessed with two precious great-grandchildren, Avery Elizabeth and Amber Jane Schlosser. Jim was a 1941 graduate of Chesapeake High School. Shortly thereafter he was called by Uncle Sam to spend time in the service of our country. After serving three years aboard the USS Currituck (a naval seaplane tender) as Machinist 3/C, he returned home and enrolled in a Machinist Apprentice program with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company where he worked as a Machinist until his retirement in 1984. After retirement, Jim enjoyed many years of travel, often meeting yearly with his Currituck friends. He has been a faithful member of JM Church for many years. He always attended the E.T. Jones Bible Class and loved traveling with the Young at Heart Group. Jim was a member of several fraternal organizations, one being the Masonic Lodge of Proctorville, Ohio. We are appreciative of those members who came to our home to honor him with a plaque recognizing him as the oldest living member. The American Legion Post 640 will pay tribute to one of their own at the Cemetery. Jim’s family is most grateful to those many friends who have shown their love and concern during these last few months. Our special thanks and appreciation go to the caregivers who have lovingly nurtured Jim. We graciously invite everyone to stop by our residence following the burial. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, Ohio is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
